What are people's feelings on the best in-ground pool filter for a large pool?

My pool is 40x20 with a 10x20 lap lane extension and will need a new filter. The pool company recommends a DE filter (Jandy) and another person that is in the pool business recommended to me a cartridge filter. He says that they are much improved from
In your situation I would recommend getting a larger Hayward sand filter. I've experienced DE filters when the pool had trees around it and you will be backwashing it at least once per week during the spring and early summer, then again late in the summer.
