Are permanent air conditioner filters really any good?
I live in San Antonio, Texas, and have been using disposable air conditioner filters since I bought the house. Are the permanent air conditioner filters (i.e. the ones you can wash) any good? Do they help reduce the dust in the house more than the disposable ones?
The filters you are referring to are ok in themselves and they will definitely stop more particulates than most disposables filters the problem is that about 95% of residential AC systems are improperly installed and one of the things they do wrong is size return ducts too small, so if on top of that you install a more restrictive filter and your duct work is leaky them you start pulling in air from the great outdoors which is not cool.
I am not saying that this is your situation just something to think about
