THE CORRECT WAY TO INSTALL THE FUEL FILTER ON A FORD POWERSTROKE DIESEL TRUCK WITH THE 6.0 ENGIEN
The fuel system for the 6.0 direct injection (DI) turbo diesel is controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM)
The fuel system consist of the following
electric fuel pump
high pressure oil pump
fuel filters
injection control pressure (ICP)
injection pressure regulator (IPR)
fuel pressure regulator
water in fuel switch/fuel heater thermostat
fuel injection control module (FICM)
Fuel supplied to the combustion chamber passes though the fuelВ conditioning module into the secondary fuel filter then to the cylinder headsВ galleries and then though the electrohydraulic injectors!
Excess fuel not to be used by the engine bypasses the secondary fuel filter ,flows though the fuel regulater assembly ,and returns to the fuel conditioning module.
The fuel pump is inside of the of the fuel conditioning module on the left side of the truck near the front drivers compartment.
NeverВ put battery voltage to injectors or they will be damaged !! The injectors are controlled by the FICM which supplies high voltage to the solenoids on the injectors !
The type of injector used in the 6 lilter are eletrohydraulic injector as a part of it fuel system.This PCM controlled injector uses a high pressure lube oil provide the necesssary force to inject fuel into the conbustion chamberat pressures up to 144mpa (21,00psi) at rated horsepower.
The injectors fit into a sleeved bore machined into the cyinder head. The injector bore intersects with a machined fuel passage that runs the lenth of each head.Each injector has two o-rings around the outter body,one that is above the fuel passage and one that is below. A fuel inlet port is used between the o-rings allowing fuel under pressure to enter the pressure amplification area of the injector.High pressure engine oil enters the injector through the top.The high pressure oil rail is is mounted to the of the injectors!
