Comp Time
When I used to have a job with the federal government, I traveled a lot for work and put in grueling hours while I was out of town on official business.Ā In lieu of overtime, the government paid me in compensatory time-off, or ācomp time.āĀ I managed to take time off for a very nice ski vacation once just on the comp time I accumulated working on an investigation in Japan.Ā Ā Given this history of non-monetary compensation, Iāve been toying with an idea for some time – to create a calculator that will determine how much comp time a woman is entitled to so she can more accurately plan her life after her kids leave home.
Knowing full well that this is only an ideal, that economic necessity and ambition may render the comp time calculator irrelevant, I still feel like those of us in the grey area between āhave to go back to work to pay the bills or college tuitionā and āmust get back to my six-figure incredibly rewarding profession immediatelyā need a planning tool.
