Porsche Carrera
History of the Carrera 1955 – The Porsche Carrera was first used in the racing circuit in the 1950’s and it was introduced as a public vehicle in 1955, it came with a 4 cam engine, dual exhaust, 1.5 liter and it ran up to 200km/hr. 1957/8 – The Carrera Coupes and the Reuter GT came about with aluminum doors, deck lids, seats, wheels and hub caps the first of its kind. It was 1.6 liter engine with spacers and koni shocks. 1959 – This was the creation of the heaviest Porsche ever built with a 12 volt system; it was later discontinued because it was too heavy to sustain any true speed. 1961 – The Carrera was phased out and it was now mostly built for racing only. 1962 – The European racing sport took on new outlook and Porsche provided the racing vehicles the Abarth Carrera was born. Then came the 2000GS Carrera B model and the 356C model with 4 cam engines, 130hp and disk brakes, this was one of the faster cars built at this time. 1964 – The Carrera GTS was built with a tube frame chassis, 6 cylinder engines, and a fiber glass body, the first ever to try such a daring creation. 1974/5 – The Coupe and the Targa Carrera was created with 2.7 liter engines. By 1975 the Euro Carrera 3.0 was introduced with a 3.0 turbo engine, 230hp and 330 bhp. 1978 – The awesome Super Carrera was built for street use; it was built with wide fenders in the rear, larger wheels and a 3.0 engine. This type of speed and elegance was unheard of for the 70’s. 1984 – Came the Carrera 3.2 with 200hp, and the first ever leather interior Porsche. 1987 – The Carrera 3.2 was vamped up with a faster engine pumping out 214hp. 1989 – The Carrera 4 was created with 247hp, 3.6 liter engine, rocker panels, 4wd, and traction control.
