I have a slight problem. The downstairs bay window area is brick, however upstairs the inside is plaster boarded.
The existing singleradiator was the old type which didn't convect much heat. I have now bought a double and I am concerned

STYLE – FINISHES
There’s been a “plastics revolution”. Plastics have triggered off some of the most exciting developments in furniture and finishes in the past 20 years. Because plastics have different structures from traditional materials, they can be used in quite different ways. For furniture, this has given designers a great new freedom to experiment with shapes. For surfaces, a plastic finish can give the user more variety, greater toughness, easier maintenance than with traditional ones. All over the house we benefit from the helpful qualities of the various plastics: in paints that are easier to apply and keep bright; in floors that just need wiping over (instead of scrubbing/ polishing); in wall coverings which are washable; in light acrylic baths, bright cheap kitchen things, and so on.
Already there are many different plastics and since polymer technology is a growth industry, there are likely to be many more.
Some worth remembering are: polypropylene and ABS (Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) for furniture, polyester and acrylic for fibred, PVC (poly vinyl chloride) for sheet plastic, polyurethane and melamine (pre-catalysed and acid-catalyst) for seals and surfaces; polystyrene for rigid foam and polyester chart at the end of this section there is a summary which includes uses, advantages and maintenance hints for all these plastics. Here are some of the ways plastics are being used.
Furniture constructed in plastics
This is usually moulded. Sometimes it is solid: as for example Jo Columbo’s Kartell chairs or Magistretti coffee tables. The finish can come in a wide range of colors and often (though not necessarily) that pleasing mirror-like flat surface. Sometimes, plastics are used in rigid expanded foam moulded to a shape: for example many “shell” type chairs and sofas gave this basic foam construction around which their upholstery is applied. Other moulded things, like drawers, record-player cases or TV cabinets are also made of expanded rigid foam, not solid plastics.
