Just purchased a new serpentine belt for my moms '96 Escort LX. Dayco belt number is 5060505 as recommended by the guy at Advanced Auto. I'm thinking this is the wrong belt maybe? I have turned the belt tensioner as far as humanly possible without removing

The Bonneville Salt Flats are located in the Great Salt Lake Desert near the Nevada - Utah border just outside the town of West Wendover, Nevada. The Salt Flats, which cover 30,000 acres of real estate, are watched over by the US Government Bureau of Land Management. It's big, it's flat, and for several weeks a year, is very, very fast.
The Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) hosts Speed Week in August and the World Finals in October while the Utah Salt Flats Racing Association (USFRA) hosts the World of Speed in September. Racing on the salt began back in the early 1900's and land speed records have been broken there ever since. Today, the fastest classes of vehicles reach speeds of over 400 mph and there are even 'green' classes for electric powered machines.
My passion for cars and speed began as a kid when my grandfather used to take me to the parking garage that he owned and operated in the middle of downtown Seattle. I knew the names of makes and models at an early age and have always loved cars, driving and the thrill of speed. I have a broad background in amateur and professional motorsports and over the years I've dabbled in drag racing, road racing, autocrossing and karting. I also spent seven years as a volunteer corner worker for SCCA Club and Pro racing events, the former CART Indy Car series and IMSA. I've been fortunate enough to have worked races at road courses, street courses and oval tracks across the US and in Canada.
So why this blog? Now that I'm fifty-five years old I'm feeling like I need to do some things before my time on this earth is up. My friend Dawn called it my Bucket List after the movie of the same name. Land speed racing on the Bonneville Salt Flats is one of those things that I must do and I'm going to do it in my 2007 GMC Canyon pickup to see what it's capable of.
My plan is to attend the 2010 USFRA World of Speed in September with an entry in the 130 mph class that is designed for street vehicles with minimal safety equipment. I've capped my budget at $2,500 and I think I'll be able to easily meet that. Even with bolt on performance modifications and aerodynamic enhancements it isn't likely that my four cylinder Canyon will see anything north of 130. My target is 115, 120 may be possible and I'll be ecstatic if I can break the 125 mph mark. That's pushing the envelope when you're driving something that is about as aerodynamic as a brick. But hey, a guy has got to have dreams!
