A large safe being lifted ito a building with a pulley snaps the chain that supports it and falls toward Earth. If the safe has a mass of 15000kg, what is the acceleration of Earth toward the safe?
Clearly.... The question is about the acceleration of the earth towards the safe...

Surprise and delight: I have a new wheel!
It is a Penguin Quill Wheel, apparently once sold by a company called Sunshine Canyon in Boulder, Colorado. It came with a twenty-page manual, dated 1973, a pair of painted penguins for decoration, and nothing else. The mechanics are simple. A small drive wheel (which sits just under the spindle) turns both spindle and large wheel by friction. It is in decent shape given its probable age, but the rubber(?) edging on the drive wheel needs to be replaced.
Naturally, I wanted to know more about this little gem, so I headed straight for Google. There wasn’t much to find. Prairie’s End Woodcrafts, at http://bit.ly/90tj3G , makes an updated version with a conventional pulley and band. Instructions for building your own are on this site: http://bit.ly/9aMHEn . Finally, I tripped over a video by Dawn L.E. Riden, at http://bit.ly/akl46M , who has a wheel identical to my own. That was a definite ‘eureka’ moment.
Is it fun to use? YES! Also frustrating… quill spinning is NOTHING like using a conventional wheel, and the single treadle is tricky after using a double. But the payoff is sweet. Art yarns that catch on flyer hooks and jam the orifice will wind effortlessly onto the quill.
Once I have a clue, that is. Meanwhile, I would love to know more about this wheel; it is a part of contemporary spinning history. Plus I’m curious. If you’ve ever used one, please do share.
