Her Way or the Highway
Tonight’s title is in reference to the capricious ways of Lady Luck. Merciful, in this case, but in a relative way. Is it bad luck or just the dues we must pay? It is certainly lucky that we are here at another excellent shop with WiFi and power, and it looks like we are down for the count. There must have been a slight upward curve to the Lady’s lips as she dealt us our hand, as there is no regret in my heart at having met and had a chance to work with Guru Dave and Apprentice Art, with the genial character Terry and his stories and jokes. I was introduced to the shop mascot Doug, who has certainly learned a lot in his time, and is always ready to jump in to the fray and share his knowledge and experience.
It is much better to be here than on the side of the road in the rain, with trucks whooshing by and more questions than answers, and no resources whatsoever except those provided by passers-by of generous nature. Certainly could be worse.
So right now I’m writing to the tunes of Rick Stavely, an apparent admirer of the bus. When we got back to Penelope from Starbuck’s earlier today, where we used the internet to locate Dave and his shop “Victoria Auto Tune” here in Prince George, there was this CD sitting on the driver’s seat. The means of entry was obviously via the slightly open window, and I figured the bus must have caught Rick’s attention, and he left the CD as a compliment. Can you imagine living in mid-British Columbia and having a dream which takes you all the way to Nashville to record your record, and “get ‘er done”? Them’s big dreams, and a lot of commitment, not to mention money spent. So I appreciate it. Thanks Rick! http://www.rickstavely.com/
Michele told you about the issues, so I need not go into detail, but I think of my good ol’ pop rebuilding an engine in a rest stop when I think of these challenges, and I don’t quite feel like I’ve lived up to that expression of determination and skill. Yet. I wish I didn’t have to, but once it is all over, I’m sure I’ll be glad to have had these experiences. Each time something happens, I learn, and I gain knowledge and experience….and also the means of becoming more creative and more self-sufficient. It can’t happen all at once, and it would never happen at all if we had done this the Uhaul way.
