There are plenty of upgrades that are simple and effective. One of the best manufacturer's is K&N. A drop-in filter replacement.

K&N air filters will last a lifetime, if serviced regularly as specified. Usually a simple procedure of blowing loose dirt off and reoiling every 20,000 miles.
