how to wire a single phase reversible motor starter to a duel voltage motor 115/230vac when using the 230va?
I found a wiring diagram at this link to a pdf on page 5 http://www.elevatorconcepts.com/troubles hooting/PPDFSB013.pdf
but I want to make sure someone with experience can confirm that this is the best way.
I found this diagram on pg5 at this link:

NOW typically they say you reverse leads 5 and 8 and connecting them between lead 4 or to leads 2,3 to reverse the motor. but in this example they are switching lead 5 only and they are keeping 2,3,8 together at ALL times. They are switching leads 5 between 1 and 4. Basically in one scenario the current will hit the starting capacitor right away and in the other it will his it after going though one of the windings. Will this work 100%? Has anyone tried this before? Is it safe for the motor?
Yes and no. It gives you only part. It does not give you the control circuit that you need to make sure that both relays are energized at the same time.
I found this link that shows how you use NC (normally closed contacts to ensure that don't happen)
MF motor forward, MR motor reverse

To reverse a motor, you have to change two wires, that is why you have to use two motor starters.
I work maintenance and wire stuff like this for a living.
Good Luck
